To begin there are 2 scenarios that you will be doing this, one is with the turbo in the truck which is very doable and then with the turbo out of the truck in which I am doing because in this situation I am doing a complete rebuild of a 7.3 PSD.

I will cover the steps in both scenarios that you will need to take to replace your turbo compressor wheel, this works on models 94.5-2003 there isn't much difference.

With the Turbo in the vehicle:
1.  Open the hood (ha ha)
2.  Disconnect the batteries
3.  Remove the air filter, housing, and air filter tube from turbo
4.  Loosen clamp holding turbo Y-pipe (94-00) OR spider pipe (00-03)
5.  Loosen clamps from turbo to intake boots.
6.  (FOR TRUCK WITH INTERCOOLERS) Loosen clamps connecting intercooler to spider pipe
7.  Remove Y-pipe / spider pipe
8.  Remove the 5 8mm bolts that hold the compressor housing cover on.
9.  Remove the compressor housing cover
10.  Remove the turbo compressor wheel with a 16mm (for stock wheel) and a impact gun.
You may need to hold down the exhaust impeller with something (not your fingers), but usually you can get the wheel off by tapping on the impact trigger a few times and it usually just comes right off.
11.  Inspect turbo shaft bearings, if there is any play then you need to replace them unless you want some more problems on down the road.
12.  Clean up the housing with some brake cleaner (non-chlorinated) and a rag.
13.  Install new compressor wheel, you don't need a socket to install it, you just need to get it hand tight, it will torque itself down during operation.
14.  Make sure assembly spins freely, if not figure it out or be sorry.
15.  Reinstall cover and 5x 8mm bolts that hold the housing on, careful not to strip out the threads, the housing is aluminum.
16.  Reinstall the rest of the hardware to connect the turbo to the intake and air filter

With the Turbo out of the vehicle:
1. Remove the 5 8mm bolts that hold the compressor housing cover on.
2. Remove the compressor housing cover
3. Remove the turbo compressor wheel with a 16mm (for stock wheel) and a impact gun.  You may need to hold down the exhaust impeller with something (not your fingers), but usually you can get the wheel off by tapping on the impact trigger a few times and it usually just comes right off.
4. Inspect turbo shaft bearings, if there is any play then you need to replace them unless you want some more problems on down the road.
5. Clean up the housing with some brake cleaner (non-chlorinated) and a rag.
6. Install new compressor wheel, you don't need a socket to install it, you just need to get it hand tight, it will torque itself down during operation.
7. Make sure assembly spins freely, if not figure it out or be sorry.
8. Reinstall cover and 5x 8mm bolts that hold the housing on, careful not to strip out the threads, the housing is aluminum.
